During 19, 20 and 21 September, in MónNatura Pyrenees, are organized 3 days that are part of the LIFE project “Consolidation of a brown bear population in a fragmented management territory: the central Pyrenees”.

The symposium “European experiences in the prevention of damage” will take place on the 19th which will explain European experiences about brown bear damage prevention systems in the primary sector. The conflict between this sector and the big carnivores will be debated, giving special importance to the brown bear. Southern European practices will be known in innovative systems for preventing damage; will take place round tables on prevention systems; and the support of the administrations in the application of prevention measures will be discussed.

In the international days “The return of the big carnivores in mountain areas”, which will take place on September 20 and 21, will talk and discuss the recovery of big carnivores in Europe and their coexistence with the local population and traditional mountain activities, such as livestock and beekeeping. First, the results of the PirosLife project will be presented, implemented between 2014 and 2019 by the different project partners. The invited speakers will be European specialists in brown bear, wolf and lynx, mainly from southern and central Europe. Different round tables will be held to discuss communication, conflict management and the value to the territory that large carnivores have. Finally, we will go to the field to know the habitat where the brown bear population lives in the Catalan Pyrenees and where the PirosLife project is being applied.
