Individuals and genealogy

The data obtained from the genetic analysis of the samples collected (hair and droppings), automatic photo and video systems and visual observations has made it possible to identify the different specimens that live or have lived in the Pyrenees from 1996 to the present day.
At the start of each year, experts from France, Andorra, Navarre, Aragon, Aran and Catalonia meet to share and discuss data obtained from the previous year, determine the number of bears inhabiting the Pyrenees, identify individuals and establish parent-offspring relationships. The result is an exact number and a range of possible specimens living in the Pyrenees, including adult males, subadult males, breeding and non-breeding adult females, subadult females and cubs born that year.
